Free Shipping Day Is Dec 17 – 1127 Stores Participating (So Far)

Free Shipping Day for the 2012 holiday season will take place on Monday December 17.

Over 1,100 merchants are offering free shipping with delivery by Christmas Eve. Other discounts and promotions will be offered as well.

Companies large and small are participating with offerings in electronics, furniture, beauty, apparel, toys, outdoor gear, jewelry, appliances, food, and many more categories.

Best Buy, L.L. Bean, Kate Spade, REI, Barnes and Noble, Guess, Blue Nile, and 1-800-Flowers are some of the retailers on the list, to name a few.

Shipping offers and deals will be revealed on the site at 12 a.m. EST on Monday December 17.

Luke and Maisie Knowles of Colorado started the first Free Shipping Day in 2008. The idea was borne out of frustration with paying shipping fees for online purchases.

Each year since, more merchants have signed on with over 2,600 merchants participating last year according to their site. In addition, their statistics show that “In 2011, the lowest rate for shopping cart abandonment occurred on Free Shipping Day”.

The Free Shipping site offers coupon codes throughout the year and even features other discounts in addition to shipping codes.

A list of participating retailers in this year’s event is at: http://www.freeshippingday.com/.
