Free Tax Filing Programs For 2014 – Which One Should You Chose?

There are more free online tax filing programs available for filing 2013 taxes than you might expect.

The IRS lists 14 free tax filing programs on their site for those with an adjusted gross income of $58,000 or less.

Their list includes big names such as TaxACT Free File Edition, H&R Block’s Free File, and TurboTax.

There are also lesser-known tax programs such as Tax Simple, eSmartTax By Liberty Tax Service, FreeTaxUSA® IRS Free File Edition, and TaxSlayer.

A full list of all 14 free tax filing programs is on the IRS site here.

The IRS goes one step further though and actually provides suggestions on which programs are right for you.

A form on their site ask for information including age, estimated 2013 adjusted gross income, state of residence, whether you are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit, whether or not you earned military pay, and whether you need a state income tax form.

Based on those answers, the IRS offers up a list of free tax programs for your consideration.

According to the site, the choice they offer is based on information provided by each company. They also note that some of the companies charge extra for filing state income filing.
