“I’d like to take a minute, so sit right there and I’ll tell you how the Fresh Prince is going back to Bel-Air”
Yes, it’s official- ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ is coming back to TV and the prince himself, Will Smith, will be executive producer.
The announcement came from TV Line, who got the exclusive from various sources associated with the project that it is a go.
Word is that Smith’s Overbook Entertainment company will be producing it and that the show will put a modern spin on the original.
It’s not clear though, on whether this will be a total remake or an extension of the original, like with ‘Fuller House’ on Netflix.
It’s also not clear who will be broadcasting it, as it is being said Smith will shop it around in the next couple of weeks.
One station that seems to be interested is the original Fresh Prince network, NBC.
During the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said as of now the network is not involved with the project, but that he would “be happy to talk to Will [Smith] about it.”
‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ ran for 6 seasons on NBC and is the latest 90’s sitcom to try to recapture the magic of that era.
