The Walt Disney Company has officially announced during their annual shareholder’s meeting in San Francisco that work is underway for a sequel to the 2013’s smash hit animated movie, Frozen.
The announcement has hit Disney’s official Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the announcement made by Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter and Disney Chief Bob Iger. Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will return for the sequel, and Olaf’s voice actor, Josh Gad, is expected to reprise his role, since he was one of the first people to break out the information. It will be produced by Peter Del Velcho and developed by Walt Disney Animation Studios.
The news is not surprising, as the first movie managed to earn $1.3 billion in box office since its release on November 12, 2013, and spawned large amounts of merchandise. It also won the Oscar for Best Animated Movie and there’s a Broadway production coming out.
There is even a new animated short, Frozen Fever, which will be attached to screenings of Disney’s live-action adaptation of Cinderella this upcoming weekend. It will feature a small adventure that takes place after the first film’s events.
