GE Recalls Top-Loading Washers For Fire Hazard: Sold in US & Canada

GE is recalling over 200,000 top-loading washing machines due to a fire hazard.

To date, 71 instances of internal washer components catching on fire or burning have been reported, resulting in three fires and over $120,000 worth of property damage.

Affected washers include three models from the GE Profile line. The recalled washers are high-efficiency top-loaders and come in gray, white and gold.

The GE Profile recalled washer model numbers include:

WPGT9350

WPGT9360

WPGT9150

All serial numbers of those three models are recalled.

The model number can be located on the backside of the washer (above where the water valves connect).

The recalled washers were sold at a number of stores across the U.S., including Best Buy, The Home Depot, Lowe’s and Sears from June 2003 through October 2011. They retailed for between $900 and $1400.

An additional 400+ units were sold in Canada.

If consumers find they own a recalled washer, they should unplug the machine and quit using it immediately.

GE Appliances will be performing free repairs on the machines.
