George Lopez Pays For San Fernando Tigers Championship Rings

When you think of George Lopez, you think of comedy. You might not expect to see the more sentimental side of him off stage, though. At Saturday’s Los Angeles City Section Division I title game, when his high school’s team the San Fernando Tigers won the title, he showed his support and pride for them in an unprecedented way.

The San Fernando Tigers’ baseball team is comprised of players from a commonly low-income sector of town. Most of them, though they had earned the championship rings, simply couldn’t afford them. Enter George Lopez to purchase the rings and showed his love for his old high school.

George Lopez attended San Fernando High and even played baseball for a short while there. The team hadn’t won the title in 10 years. When the team won, Lopez stepped forward to purchase the championship rings each team member has earned.

The win broke the 9 year winning streak of rival team Chatsworth High. The San Fernando Tigers won the game 8-6. The game was played at Dodger Stadium. Not only did the Los Angeles school erupt with joy, but so did George Lopez. Thanks to him, the team can show off their championship pride.
