Get On Up: A New James Brown Biopic

James Brown is known as a defining artist of soul and funk music. His work is now recognized in a biopic focusing on his journey from a poor upbringing to becoming an icon.

The movie is set to be released in theaters this Friday, August 1st.

James Brown, often called “The Godfather of Soul”, significantly impacted the growth of many different kinds of music, most notably soul.

His biggest hits include “I Got You (I Feel Good),” “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag,” and “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine.”

He also wrote songs commenting on social issues in the 60s, often dealing with race, such as “Say It Loud-I’m Black and I’m Proud.”

Brown was honored with several awards, including being inducted into the Rock and Roll and the Songwriters Hall of Fame and being ranked seventh in Rolling Stone’s list of the 100 greatest artists.

Playing Brown is Chadwick Boseman, who previously played Jackie Robinson in “42.” Having landed roles portraying two influential icons, he will surely continue to succeed after this.
