Girl Scout Cookie Goes Gluten-Free

Girl Scout Cookie Goes Gluten-Free

Never fear, Girl Scout cookie season is almost here, and the scouts have left out the gluten!

But don’t worry, the recipe of your favorite classics will not be tampered with.

After the realization that many of their customers are on gluten-free diets, the Girl Scout’s decided to introduce a new, gluten-free cookie, the Chocolate Chip Shortbread.

These cookies are made with a blend of rice and tapioca flours, cornstarch and potato starch.

The recipe also contains real butter, real chocolate chips and pure cane sugar — so no artificial flavors or colors, high-fructose corn syrup or hydrogenated oils, like most of the cookies in the Girl Scouts’ collection.

However, not everyone will be able to try the Chocolate Chip Shortbread this year.

The Scouts are only making the cookie available in 20 test markets. If it turns out to be popular enough with buyers, the cookies will become available in more areas next season.
