Chord Overstreet — known on the show as Sam Evens — will not be returning to the hit Fox show “Glee” for its third season.
The 22-year-old actor joined the cast of “Glee” for its second season as a recurring guest star and transfer student, and will not be a series regular for season three, a representative for Fox confirmed to People Magazine.
“Well its been a good year too bad its over,” Overstreet tweeted Friday in regards to his lessening role on the show. “Time for summer and starting fresh.”
Fox’s representative did not disclose the reason as to why Chord is leaving the show, but Overstreet might make his way back to the “Glee” cast as an occasional guest start, a source close to the show told TV Line.
According to People, The casting news comes on the heels of a recent promise from creator Ryan Murphy that some of the show’s main characters would graduate by the end of season three.
“We didn’t want to have a show where they were in high school for eight years,” Murphy told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show last month.
Even though Overstreet will not be a regular on the third season of “Glee,” there is good news. Darren Criss — who plays Warbler — and Harry Shum Jr. — who plays Mike –, have both been upgraded to full-time series regulars this fall.
