Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced a Sept. 16 release date for the home video release of Godzilla.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, Godzilla stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a former explosives disposal expert for the Navy. His father (Bryan Cranston) has knowledge of a nuclear accident that unleashed a number of massive creatures, including the titular lizard, upon Japan. As the creatures wreak havoc through several cities, father and son team up to find a way to stop them, only to make a surprising discovery about Godzilla himself. Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, and Sally Hawkins round out the cast.

Godzilla will be released in several different formats: a 3D Blu-Ray combo pack, a 2D Blu-Ray combo pack, and a 2-disc special edition DVD. The combo packs include the movie on Blu-Ray, DVD, and in an UltraViolet digital copy. Godzilla will also be available for purchase in Digital HD via outlets such as Amazon, iTunes, Vudu, and more. There will additionally be a limited edition Godzilla MetalPak 3D Blu-ray, which comes with embossed artwork and Godzilla’s iconic roar.

Bonus features on all editions will provide insight into the making of the film and the legacy of its central character. According to the official press release, “MONARCH: Declassified” will allow viewers to “discover explosive new evidence not contained in the film that unravels the massive cover-up to keep Godzilla’s existence a secret.” Meanwhile, “The Legendary Godzilla” is a series of segments that take you behind-the-scenes with the filmmakers and cast. It will take a closer look at the other monsters featured in the film, as well.

Godzilla was a box office hit, grossing almost $200 million in the United States alone. It is certified “fresh” on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 74% critical approval rating.

The 3D Blu-Ray combo pack has a suggested retail price of $44.95, while the 2D Blu-Ray combo pack goes for $35.99, and the 2-disc DVD special edition for $28.98. Of course, many outlets will offer sales when Godzilla is released, so be sure to check your favorite store for details.
