Google Play Offering App, Music, Movie Specials Next 7 Days

More information is coming in about the new Google Play Store.

Earlier we reported that the Android Market was being renamed the Google Play Store. Along with the Android Market, Google Music and the Google eBookstore are also being placed under the Google Play Store banner, unifying Google’s entertainment content into one store.

The new branding can viewed on the internet right now. An update will be sent out to Android smartphones and tablets, rebranding and updating the store, throughout the week. Existing content stored on the cloud, such as as videos, ebooks and music, will be upgraded to Google Play Movies, Google Play Books and Google Play Music apps, according to Google’s official blog.

Of interest to shoppers – as part of the name-change, Google is putting a wide variety of apps, books, music and movies on sale. They are calling it the “7 Days to Play” sale. Google says they will be offering “a different album, book, video rental and Android app at a special price each day for the next week.” For those of us in the US, today’s specials include ‘Now That’s What I Call Music 41,’ the game app ‘Where’s My Water’ (which just happened to be the app downloaded as Apple’s 25 billionth app, coincidence?), the e-book ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ and the movie ‘Puncture’. Each of these are on sale for 25 cents each.

A variety of other albums, movies, e-books and apps are also on sale, many popular apps are just 49 cents each today. The sale is available through http://play.google.com
