Grammy’s To Open Under Pall Of Houston’s Death

It will be a somber party tonight.

The 2012 Grammy Awards are set to open tonight at 5pm Pacific Time at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It will be shown live on the east coast, and even though the ceremony is on the west coast, it won’t be shown there until 8pm. Unfortunate, considering the results will be splashed across the internet by the time California gets to see it.

But this year the Grammys will be quite different than what was expected just a day ago. While the celebrations will go on, they will be overshadowed by the death of six time Grammy Award winner Whitney Houston. The singer and actress was found in her bathtub and Whitney-Houstonpossible drowned, according to TMZ. She had already been removed from the tub when paramedics arrived. She was pronounced dead at 3:55pm. Beverly Hills police are being quoted as saying there was no evidence of alcohol or illegal drug consumption in the room, but there was a variety of prescription pill bottles. The room was still being searched when that report was made.

The Grammys will go on as scheduled, according to producers.  It’s being reported that Jennifer Hudson and perhaps Chaka Khan will be doing a tribute to the fallen star. There will certainly be many references to Houston throughout the evening. But as for a full out memorial? “It’s too fresh in everyone’s memory to do more at this time, but we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize Whitney’s remarkable contribution to music fans in general, and in particular her close ties with the Grammy telecast and her Grammy wins and nominations over the years,” said Grammy executive producer, Ken Ehrlich.
