‘GTA 5’ Characters, Vehicles, Gameplay, And Los Santos Revealed

The veil has been lifted — Grand Theft Auto 5 has been revealed to the world by an 18-page cover story done by Game Informer for their December issue.

A lot of details have come out, including gameplay mechanics, characters, the world of Los Santos and much more.

The world of Los Santos (the GTA version of Los Angeles) will be “the largest open-world playground in Rockstar history.” It’s said to be bigger than the worlds of Red Dead Redemption, GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 combined.

Vehicles confirmed for GTA 5 include BMX, mountain bikes, road bikes, dirt bikes, trucks, helicopters, planes, ATVs, and jet skis. There will also be lots of side activities to do in Los Santos, including yoga, triathlons, jet skiing, base jumping, tennis, and golf.

This time around, GTA will have three playable protagonists – Michael, Trevor and Franklin. Michael and Trevor are older characters in their mid-40’s, while Franklin is in his mid-20’s. All three characters have a criminal history associated with them. Players will be able to switch between each character through a quick menu system whenever they please.

With three characters to deal with, the mission mechanics promise to be more varied. Missions can involve all three characters, or pair them up based on the situation. It also seems that a majority of the missions will involve pulling off heists.

Each protagonist will unlock specific hobbies that only that character can do in the game. Character customization has been slimmed down for GTA 5, but all three leads will still have very specific perks and abilities.

Many of the mechanics for the game have been built from the ground up. The driving mechanics have been changed to make the driving experience more real, and pedestrians will react differently based upon the section of Los Santos they are in. Shooting and melee combat have also been drastically altered this time around.

With so many new aspects added to GTA 5, it will be interesting to see the game in action. Now the wait begins for details on the game’s multiplayer mode.

GTA 5 is looking at a Spring 2013 release for the PS3 and Xbox 360. What new info on GTA 5 are you most excited about?
