After nine emotion filled years, fans had one final chance to say goodbye to the cast of How I Met Your Mother.
The episode began with what appeared to be Ted’s final goodbye to the group at Barney and Robin’s wedding. Fate though had other plans for Ted as he finally met his future wife, the mother of the show while waiting at the bus stop.
The show skipped ahead to a point where Ted found out that he and his finance at the time were expecting their first kid.
After another time skip, the crew was gathered in Ted and his wife’s house. During the reunion conversation, Barney and Robin revealed to the group that after three years of marriage they had gotten divorced.
The time for fun and games of young adulthood was over as the gang broke apart and moved on into their successful adult lives. Marshall finally accepted a judgeship. Barney finally became a dad.
As the show came to a close, Robin came back to the group after some gentle persuasion from Ted’s new wife.
As scenes from Ted’s life with his wife played, he narrated one last lesson to his kids the lesson of love through trial and triumph. In a surprising twist, it was revealed that Ted’s wife died. His adult kids came to their own conclusion about his story.
It was not a story of how their parents met, but how much he loved Robin. They convinced him to follow his heart.
