“The Hunger Games” came out on DVD and Blu-ray yesterday and it’s causing quite a stir!
But buying the movie on a disc is not the only option for watching “The Hunger Games” at home. It’s also available through streaming, either with a 24-hour rental or by purchasing it outright.
Amazon provides the film through its Instant Video service. The cost for a 24-hour rental is $3.99. Amazon also has it for sale streaming at $14.99. On the rentals, shoppers have 30 days to begin watching the movie, the 24-hour period starts when the video begins being played. Going old school? Amazon has the two disc DVD set available for $16.99. On Blu-ray it’s $19.99.
Over on iTunes, “The Hunger Games” cost $3.99 to rent – $4.99 if you want in HD (and who wouldn’t?). The standard definition version is able for purchase for $14.99, and in HD for $19.99. Like Amazon, rentals are good for 24 hours, and must be started within 30 days.
Best Buy is offering an exclusive collectors edition for $29.99. It includes the movie and a special features disc on DVD and Blu-ray, a numbered acrylic keepsake, and a collectible case. They also have the regular DVD version for $16.99, and the Blu-ray version for $19.99..
Walmart also has an exclusive collectors edition. It includes the two disc set on DVD, a Mockingjay pendant, and through VUDU it comes with “The Stunts of the Hunger Games” and “Capitol Couture: The Styles of Panem.” Walmart has the standard two disc DVD version priced at $19.96, and on Blu-ray for $22.96.
Target also has an exclusive collectors edition which includes 45 min. of exclusive content and a collectible case. On DVD the collectors edition is $20.99, on Blu-ray it’s $24.99. The standard DVD version at Target is $16.99. On Blu-ray: $19.99.
Interestingly, Target also has an exclusive, autographed, limited edition Hunger Games poster, signed by Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Stenberg, Dayo Okeniyi, Leven Rambin, Jack Quid, Latarsha Rose, Alexander Ludwig
and Isabelle Fuhrman. The price – $699!
