Apple will introduce the iPhone 5 on September 12, and launch it on September 21, according to rumors swirling about the internet today.
But that’s not all – according to even more rumors, the company will also launch two new iPods along with the iPhone 5. There will be a new iPod Touch, and an iPod nano.
And there’s more – word is that Apple has a new, 7 inch, iPad, ready to go – and may introduce it, and even launch it, along with the iPhone 5.
Could any of this, or all of this, be true? Let’s break it down and take a look.
About this time last year, it was widely speculated that an iPhone 5 would be revealed in October of 2011. But instead, we got the iPhone 4S.
Back in May of this year, we heard reports that Apple was cutting back on iPhone 4S inventories. At that time, while some thought it might come earlier, many felt Apple was preparing for a Fall iPhone 5 launch. Apple seems to like an annual launch cycle. September is slightly early, but not by much.
In trying to confirm a rumor, it doesn’t have to just make sense. It also has to come from a strong source. The reports of a September iPhone 5 reveal and launch appear to originate on the tech site iMore. Generally speaking, the site has a pretty good reputation. We have also read similar rumors on the New York Times, The Verge, and AllThingsD. Of course, Apple has confirmed nothing.
Our take on the September iPhone 5 launch? Based on the sources and what we have seen and reported on in the past, probably true.
How about the iPods, and the iPad Mine? iMore is the source of these rumors as well. In their article, they say “The iPad mini will be announced at the same September 12 event, as will the new iPod nano.” They go on to state that the iPad mini may launch along with the iPhone 5 on September 21, and that “It seems likely the new iPod touch will make an appearance on September 12 as well,” but that they haven’t heard specific rumors about that.
The iPad mini and iPod rumors are quite a bit sketchier. Many of the sources we found for these point to other sites which point back to the original sites which don’t say a lot about these. We’ll have to put these down as more speculative in nature – though we suspect something will likely emerge along with the iPhone 5, we just don’t know what.
