Apple revealed today that their new iPhones, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, will be available for pre-ordering starting September 13th.
Update/correction – only the iPhone 5C will be available for pre-ordering on September 13th. Both phones go on sale September 20th. Why not announce a date for 5S pre-orders… and will the 5S even be available for pre-ordering? Good questions that we don’t have answers for at this time.
The new iPhone 5S has a much faster processor than the iPhone 5, a fingerprint security scanner (called ‘Touch ID’), a stronger battery, an impressive new camera, and Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 7.
Considering the upgrades, it’s almost surprising they didn’t go ahead and call it an iPhone 6.
The iPhone 5S will be available in silver, grey and light gold.
Prices start at $199 for a 16GB version, on contract. The 32GB version is $299, and 64GB version $399, on contract.
The iPhone 5C is a colorful, cheaper, version of the iPhone 5 with a plastic back. It will be available in red, white, blue, green, and yellow. The front of the phone is black, the color is on the back.
The iPhone 5C price start at $99 on a two year contract for the 16GB version. The 32GB version is $199. No word yet on the off contract price.
Pre-orders will be taken at Apple’s Store at http://store.apple.com/ In the past pre-orders were open at 3am (eastern time) on the indicated date.
The phones will be available on AT&T, Verizon, Sprint.
It’s interesting to note that the current iPhone 5 will be replaced by the 5C, there will not be a discounted iPhone 5 available.
