Is A Google Store Coming To A Mall Near You?

Google is planning to enter the retail market, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal.

There’s no details on exactly when, or where, the first off-site retail Google Stores will pop up though.

At the on-site Google Store at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, Google offers a wide range of Google branded products. Primarily t-shirts, hats, jackets, water bottles, pens, and backpacks – emblazoned with the Google name. There’s even snowboards with images of the famous Google Doodles on them.

There are eight such stores at Google office complexes around the world.

But surprisingly, there’s no tech in them. No Nexus smartphones. No Nexus tablets. No Chromebooks. They are geared more toward Google employees, visitors and tourists. The doors are even locked. A Google employee must escort a shopper in.

That would obviously change if Google goes all out in the retail market.

They would likely take Apple’s (and more recently, Microsoft’s) lead and have stores with all of Google’s latest and greatest electronic gadgets. But maybe even have their cool Google t-shirts, hats, and snowboards in the stores as well.

The Google Stores would also be an outlet for up and coming Google tech – such as Google Glass and products from (the now Google owned) Motorola  Mobility.

Just think, one day you may hit the mall and have Apple, Microsoft, and Google, right down the hall from each other – battling it out toe to toe.

The company certainly isn’t short of knowledgeable staff members, who can possibly emulate Apple’s ‘Genius’ employees.
