Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez team up again to direct Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the sequel to Sin City (2005).
The movie’s newly released 1:26 trailer promises pulp magazine fun.
The second book in Frank Miller’s Sin City book series is the movie’s foundation. IMDB’s synopsis reads, “The town’s most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants.”
Stark dark and light contrast is this fast paced film noir’s theme. White smoke swirls and white silhouettes fight against dark space. Dramatic color accents provided by Ava Lord’s (Eva Green) blue dress and red lips pop against crisp black and white footage adding vintage pulp appeal.
The beautiful cinematography contrasts sharply with the plot’s grit and violence.
Marv (Mickey Rourke) soars in slow motion through shards of glass in the trailer’s opening sequence. Johnny (Joseph Gordon Levitt) appears beaten and bloody. Sultry Nancy Callahan (Jessica Alba) slides from the shadows into a halo of light where she dances seductively in a strip club.
Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba are not the only stars returning to Sin City. Rosario Dawson, Bruce Willis, and Powers Boothe reprise their roles Gail, Hartigan, and Senator Roark.
Th film is scheduled for release in August 2004. The short trailer has all the makings of a summer blockbuster. You can view the trailer here and share your thoughts in the comment section.
