J.J. Fuds Issues Pet Food Recall Of Premium Natural Blends Chicken

J.J. Fuds has issued a recall of select packages of its Chicken Tender Chunks Pet Food because of potential Listeria contamination.

The pet food recall includes all 5 lb. bags of J.J. Fuds Premium Natural Blends, Chicken Tender Chunks with the Product UPC Number: 654592-345935 and Manufacture/Lot Code Date: 5/5/14.

The recalled bags were distributed in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin to retail and wholesale customers.

J.J. Fuds issued a release noting, “The product can be identified by the batch ID code (manufactured date) and UPC code printed on the back of the individual plastic bag or on the master case label. This product is a frozen raw poultry product (see Safe Handling Instructions on package) and has a shelf life of one year if kept frozen.”

Serious or fatal infections can result from listeria in young, frail, and elderly humans as well as those with compromised or weakened immune systems. According to the company, animals infected with listeria can suffer similar problems.

Other potential symptoms of listeria include: high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, miscarriages, and stillbirths.

Pet owners concerned their animals may be exhibiting symptoms of listeria should contact their veterinarian immediately.

The recall came about as a result of routine testing done by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development that found a positive sample with Listeria monocytogenes.

J.J. Fuds said it hasn’t received any reports of dogs with nausea or diarrhea or humans becoming ill due to consumption of the recalled chicken.

The company is working with stores and distributors to remove any remaining recalled items from freezer shelves and says it is, “… issuing this action out of an abundance of caution and sincerely regrets any inconvenience to pet owners as a result of this announcement.”

Pets should not be fed the recalled product.

Customers who have any of the recalled food can return it to the retailer for a refund and proper disposal.

Pet owners with questions about the J.J. Fuds Chicken Tender Chunks Pet Food recall can contact the company online at jjfuds.com or by phone at 888-435-5873 Monday-Friday 8AM-4PM CST.
