Frank Sinatra’s favorite whiskey has decided to honor him with a special-edition called Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select.
The premium whiskey —bottled at 90 proof— will initially be available at airports, then high-end retail stores. Expected to retail for $150 or more, Sinatra Select comes in a specially designed one liter bottle. Also included are a specially designed gift box and a book highlighting the relationship between Jack Daniel’s and Frank Sinatra.
To create the amber-hued whiskey, Master Distiller Jeff Arnett hand selected special “Sinatra Barrels” to impart a full character and darker color, according to the company. The process includes exposing the spirits to inner layers of toasted wood, then mixing them with Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey and bottling them at 90 proof, which they say will create a taste with hints of oak and spice along with a vanilla finish.
Frank Sinatra’s love of Jack Daniels was no secret to family or fans. It was common for “Ol’ Blue Eyes” to toast audiences with a glass of Jack Daniel’s and he referred to it as the “Nectar of the Gods”.
His son, Frank Sinatra Jr., said he is pleased by the occasion and noted how his father loved to share Jack Daniel’s whiskey with friends and acquaintances. Sinatra Jr. said “Dad would be very flattered by the association”.
The singer’s 100th birthday is approaching in 2015 and his son said it’s a fitting tribute.
Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select will first be available December 1 at Las Vegas airport. Airports in New York, London, and other cities will begin offering the whiskey in early 2013. The product should be available at 200 major airports within a year and reach high-end U.S. retail stores sometime next year. In 2013, the Jack Daniel’s Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee will also begin carrying Sinatra Select.
