Jogging Strollers Recalled

One of the recalled jogging strollers, the Tike Tech Single City X3.

Jogging strollers from Tike Tech and Valco are being recalled due to a strangulation hazard.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the voluntary recall today. In a statement, they said consumers should stop using the strollers, remove the grab bar, and call the stroller company for a replacement bar.

The strollers, made in China, are sold through Tike Tech Ltd., of Toronto, Ontario, and Valco Baby, of Brooklyn, N.Y.  The Tike Tech strollers are named Single City X3 and X3 Sport Jogging Strollers. The Valco Baby strollers are called the Tri Mode Single and Twin strollers.

While no injuries or deaths have been reported, there is a concern that unharnessed infants could slip through the opening between the grab bar and seat bottom. This could result in a child becoming trapped by the neck by the grab bar.

The statement from the CPSC also warned stroller users that “When using a stroller, parents and caregivers are encouraged always to secure children by using the safety harness and never to leave them unattended.”

On Tike Tech strollers, there are ID codes on the interior left side frame. The following ID codes are included in this recall:  TT-18-01 TT-18-02 TT-18-03 TT-18-04 TT-18-05 TT-18-06 TT-18-07. Tike Tech can be contacted for more information at: 1-800-296-4602.

On the Valco Baby strollers, the model number can be found on a white sticker to the left hand side of the brake bar. The affected model numbers are: RUN6140 RUN6141 RUN6142 RUN6143 RUN6144 RUN6145 RUN6146 RUN6147 RUN7710 RUN7711 TRI8800 TRI8801 TRI8802 TRI8803 TRI8890 TRI9103 TRI9104 TRI9105 TRI9106 TRI1033 TRI1034 TRI1035. Valco Baby can be contacted for additional information at: 1-800-610-7850.
