John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address Is 50 [Video]

Today marks the 50th anniversary of the John F. Kennedy inaugural address and many are taking time to remember a speech that has never quite been forgotten.

“And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country,” came from the mouth of the newly elected President and is still one of the most widely remembered parts of any inaugural speech by any President.

The day of the inauguration was memorable in its own right. A snowstorm had hit and almost canceled the parade. The U.S. Army had been sent to clear the streets. The many who gathered in the frigid temperatures did so in the hopes of change in the country. Kennedy had won, but not by a large margin.

Across the country today many will remember that speech and the President who was assassinated a mere three years later. Even Google has joined in the memories as the Google Doodle for the day showcases the words of the infamous speech and a photo of the infamous President.
