Kara DioGuardi Will Not Return As Idol Judge

Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson.

After months of speculation about who will, and will not, be on the judge’s panel for the 10th season of American Idol, Fox has answered one question via press release on Friday evening. Songwriter Kara DioGuardi will not be returning to judge the show.

In a statement released by Fox, DioGuardi states that she has loved the experience of being on Idol, but felt it was time to leave the show. She shared her gratitude to everyone she had worked with, and for all that the show had given to her.

Rumors have been rampant over the past couple of months as to whether she would be returning to the show, which lost Simon Cowell and Ellen Degeneres at the end of last season. Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe had kept no secret of the fact that he would prefer a three person judge’s panel again. Sources have been saying for a while that the show was working hard to nail down Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez before the callbacks in September, all the while leaving DioGuardi’s name out of it.

So far there is no announcement as to who will replace the judges that have left over this break, or whether Randy Jackson will be returning for season 10. While many names have been tossed around as potential judges, nothing definite has been stated.
