Kentucky Derby 2011: Start/Post Time, TV Schedule, Favorites

The Kentucky Derby post/starting time is scheduled for 6:24pm (Eastern Time) today, but is subject to change. The famous horse race will be broadcast live on TV by NBC. Race coverage is set to begin at 4pm (ET).

A field of 19 horses are expected for the 137th running of the 2011 Kentucky Derby.

Among the favorites for the historic Derby are Nehro, Dialed In, and Toby’s Corner. Early favorite Uncle Mo was scratched from the race late Friday after his trainer Todd Pletcher and his owner Mike Repole decided the colt still wasn’t right. Uncle Mo has been suffering a gastric issue since the beginning of April, and neither Pletcher nor Repole felt he was okay to run the Derby.

Reserved seating for the Kentucky Derby is sold out. However, general admission tickets are still available for $40 each at all the gates. Churchill Downs warns consumers to beware when purchasing reserved seating tickets from a third party. Two tickets – the Bacardi Infield Club and the Reserved Grandstand Seating – are both required for admission into the Park. Consumers should not purchase the tickets separately.

Consumers should also be aware that certain items are not allowed to be brought into Churchill Downs. Glass, alcohol, and thermoses are not allowed. Duffel bags, luggage, briefcases, and backpacks are also not permitted. Wagons, umbrellas, weapons also should not be brought. A special note is made by Churchill Downs that coolers containing ice, non-alcoholic beverages, and food packed in clear containers are permitted in the infield only and are subject to be searched.
