Kindle Fire, Touches, Ship Early

Amazon’s new Kindle Fire began being shipped out today, one day earlier than expected. The Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G will ship early as well.

No specific reason was given for upping the Fire’s ship date by a day. However, Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle, said “We’re thrilled to be able to ship Kindle Fire to our customers earlier than we expected. Kindle Fire quickly became the bestselling item across all of Amazon.com, and based on customer response we’re building millions more than we’d planned.”

Amazon also announced today that their Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G e-readers would be shipped early too. Originally planned for a November 21 launch and shipping date, now they will be shipped tomorrow, six days earlier than expected..

No reason has been given for the early launching and shipping of these devices. Limp indicated sales of the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G e-readers were also going well. ““We’ve seen great excitement over our new line of electronic ink Kindles – in fact, sales of our electronic ink Kindles are more than double any previous Kindle launch,” he said in a statement released by Amazon.

Some analysts are speculating that the new Kindles are being shipped early to make room at Amazon for new shipments of the Fire and Touches coming into Amazon warehouses to handle the high demand. Others suggest this may just be Amazon trying to get a jump on Barnes and Noble’s new Nook Tablet, which has a (unless it is moved up) launch and shipping date of November 18.
