Two million cribs have been recalled due to safety concerns, mostly related to the drop down railings.
The cribs are from seven different companies, listed below, and the recall is being done in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The companies are giving free repair kits to consumers to immobilize the drop down railings and are providing other remedies based on need. The CPSC has warned consumers to not try to repair the cribs on their own without assistance from the crib’s manufacturer.
Today’s recall affects cribs made from 2000 to 2009, supplied by the following companies.
- Simmons Juvenile Products Inc. (SJP), of New London, Wis.
- Million Dollar Baby, of Montebello, Calif.
- Child Craft, (this firm reported out of business)
- Delta Enterprise Corp., of New York, N.Y.
- Evenflo, of Miamisburg, Ohio
- Jardine Enterprises, of Taipei, Taiwan
- LaJobi, of Cranbury, N.J.
Consumers are asked to contact the company directly for instructions and the repair kit.
The CPSC said this recall is part of a larger effort to cleanse the marketplace and homes of cribs that they consider unsafe. Mandatory standards, that crib manufacturers will be required to comply with, are due to be finalized later this year.
