Marvel Studios has announced every single one of their Phase 3 films planned up to 2019.
After missing their chance to reveal the identities of their 8 unannounced films leading up to November 2018 at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel chose instead ‘a random tuesday at 11 am’ to announce every single planned movie, including a surprise for 2019.
At the special event at El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, Marvel began by revealing a subtitle for the already announced Captain America 3: Civil War. Next, they officially confirmed Doctor Strange for November 4 2016, and said it will be an origin story for the ‘arrogant’ doctor.
Then Marvel moved on to the three films planned throughout 2017, a number of movies as yet untested by the studio.
Firstly, a recorded message from James Gunn affirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 would be moving up from its original release date of July 26 2017 to the May 5 slot.
Replacing Guardians will be Thor: Ragnarok, which is confirmed to take place just after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Lastly, a Black Panther film has been confirmed for November 3 2017, and is said to have easter eggs planted throughout other Marvel films that lead directly into the plot.
Kicking off 2018 will be Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, to be released on May 4. Next for 2018 is Captain Marvel, set for July 6. This will be the first Marvel film with a female lead. Last for that year is the Inhumans movie, confirmed to introduce dozens of new characters.
The Avengers: Infinity War (Part 2) is set to be the final act of Marvel’s Phase 3, and will be released on May 3 2019.
