Mcdonald’s is recalling over 32 million Step-iT wristband toys, after receiving over 70 reports that skin irritations, rashes, and blisters were being caused by their use.
The Activity Counter and Light-up Band toys came in six colors and either measured the steps taken by their wearer or blinked according to the speed of their walk. They were included in Happy Meals and Mighty Kids Meals and were designed to increase fitness education among children.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 29 million units are being recalled in the US, with an additional 3.6 million being recalled in Canada.
McDonald started distributing the gadgets on August 9th but stopped doing so on August 17th, after parents reported that their children were experiencing burning and rashing. On Tuesday, an official recall was issued.
Customers can bring their Step-iT toys to any McDonald’s to receive a replacement toy and a bag of sliced apples or a tube of yogurt. Alternatively, they can call McDonalds, toll-free, at 1-800-244-6227 between 7 A.M and 7 P.M. CT or visit mcdonalds.com and click on “Safety Recall.”
