Miss Angola Beats All 88 Contestants For Miss Universe 2011 [Video]

Leila Lopes, better known as Miss Angola, was crowned Miss Universe Monday night at the 60th annual Miss Universe pageant in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Lopes beat 88 other contestants for the legendary crown.

The 25-year-old is the first contestant from Angola to win the title of Miss Universe. Lopes stated after she won, that she hopes to use her victory to help Angola in its efforts to break from its history of war, and escape impoverishment. She also said that she intended to help the fight against HIV worldwide.

During the Q&A interview section of the pageant, Lopes was asked about which physical trait she would change if she could. The beautiful and intelligent contestant replied, “Thank God I’m very satisfied with the way God created me and I wouldn’t change a thing. I consider myself a woman endowed with inner beauty. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I intend to follow these for the rest of my life.”

The first and second runner-ups were Olesia Sefanko (Miss Ukraine) and Priscila Machado (Miss Brazil), respectively.

Miss USA, Alyssa Campanella, did not make it into the Top 10. Last time the United States of America won the Miss Universe crown was fourteen years ago in 1997.

Leila Lopes takes the place of last year’s Miss Universe winner, Ximena Navarrete of Mexico.
