Tonight, Friday, Sept. 30, the Detroit Tigers will play against the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the American League Division Series at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY.

The Tigers (95-67) are the American League Central champions, while the Yankees (97-65) are the American League East champions.

In September, the Tigers went 20-6, the best record for the month, while the Yankees went 16-12. For the Tigers, this is their second postseason in 24 years.

Rotation for Detroit: RHP Justin Verlander (24-5, 2.40 ERA), RHP Doug Fister (11-13, 2.83), RHP Max Scherzer (15-9, 4.43) and RHP Rick Porcello (14-9, 4.75).

Rotation for New York: LHP CC Sabathia (19-8, 3.00), RHP Ivan Nova (16-4, 3.70), RHP Freddy Garcia (12-8, 3.62), RHP A.J. Burnett (11-11, 5.15).

Jose Valverde (2.24 ERA, 49 saves in 49 attempts) will close for Detroit, while Mariano Rivera (1.91 ERA, 44 saves in 49 attempts) will close for New York.

Jorge Posada will serve as the Yankees’ designated hitter tonight.

“Our intent is to use Jorgie as our DH,” Yankee’s manager Joe Girardi said. “We will go with that, and you just play it out.”
