Movie Review: “Moneyball” Hits A Home Run In Theaters

“Moneyball” is the baseball film based on a true story that is sure to steal the hearts of viewers time and time again.

In the film, the general manager of the Oakland A’s, Billy Beane (Brad Pitt), has a miraculous epiphany that all of baseball’s conventional wisdom is wrong. Beane is forced to reinvent his team on an extremely tight budget, and outsmart the richer clubs. Beane teams up with the Ivy League graduate Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) and they begin recruiting the cheaper players that the scouts call “flawed.” What Beane and Brand end up doing, challenges old school traditions… It’s a revolution.

The PG-13, 122 minute film is a comedy-drama directed by Bennett Miller and written by Steven Zaillian, Aaron Sorkin, and Stan Chervin.

The movie, which opened in theaters on Saturday, Sept. 23, is getting a lot of good ratings and reviews. According to Rotten Tomatoes, a popular movie review website, currently 94% of 142 critics give “Moneyball” a thumbs up and an average rating of 8.1 out of 10.

Here are a few reviews from some of Rotten Tomatoes‘ top critics:

“Pitt, who has a producing credit, is not the sole reason this tremendous — yet intimate — sports tale soars over the fences. The bench is deep. And the script has a powerful but finessed swing.” – Lisa Kennedy of the Denver Post.

“Moneyball turns an unlikely subject interesting, making a professional sport the nexus where past and future collide.” – Tom Long of the Detroit News.

“[Pitt] provides ballast and a swaggering humor to a movie that, too often, strives to be The Social Network of baseball movies.” – Peter Rainer of the Christian Science Monitor.

Out of 14,683 ratings by the general audience, along with the average rating of 4.2 out of 5, 88% of moviegoers enjoyed “Moneyball.”
