What happens when you open a Microsoft Store on the same day as the Xbox One is launched – and give away tickets to a Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert to boot?
You get a ton of people, excitement, and fun!
The brand new Microsoft Store opened in the St. Johns Town Center in Jacksonville, Fl, this morning at 11am.
A crowd of more than 1,400 was there when the doors opened. Many in the front of the line had been there since the previous evening, overnighting on the sidewalk in front of the store.
Larry Hryb (know to gaming fans as “Major Nelson”), Director of Programming for the Xbox Live, was there. So was Jacksonville Major Alvin Brown.
Shoppers who had pre-ordered the Xbox One, and those waiting in line to purchase one, were the first customers in the store. Xbox Ones were already bagged and ready to hand out as they came in.
Then a very, very, long line of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis fans circled around the inside of the store, picking up their tickets and getting a glimpse of all the shiny new Microsoft phones, computers and games, before heading back out the door to make room for more fans coming in.
All the while, employees of the new Microsoft Store sang, clapped, danced and gave high 5’s to shoppers and attendees.
Microsoft gave away $1.15 million in software grants during the grand opening ceremonies. The local non-profit organizations receiving the grants were the YMCA of Florida’s First Coast, the Youth Crisis Center, the United Way of NE Florida, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Community Connections Jacksonville.
Here’ a video the event – it’s a bit rough around the edges (I’m a blogger, not a videographer), but it will give you a flavor of what a Microsoft Store grand opening is like!
