Starbucks loyalty program goes beyond cafesStarbucks is planning to double the membership of its My Starbucks Rewards loyalty program.

The world’s largest coffee company is expanding the loyalty program beyond cafes.

Starting May, shoppers will be able to earn points when they purchase Starbucks coffee bags at supermarkets. They can enter the code on the bag in their online accounts to earn points.

The announcement about the program’s expansion came last year, but the company remained tight-lip on the availability until now.

The company also said they’re on the verge of launching other marketing campaigns which would give a push to its membership, which it expects to go up from 4.5 million currently to 9 million by the end of 2013.

In fall, the program will expand to other products that the Seattle-based company sells in supermarkets.

There was no mention of which products will be eligible for points, but they may include Tazo tea bags and frappuccinos.

Shoppers will also be able to earn points at Teavana shops starting next month. Teavana was recently acquired by Starbucks.

The My Starbucks Rewards customer loyalty program was launched back in 2009 and gives customers free food and drinks depending on the number of points earned.
