NBA Draft 2014: Recap and Pick-By-Pick List

The 2014 NBA draft is over and done with and there will be lots to talk about until the start of next season.

Many prospects were picked as expected, with a few surprises and last minute swaps among teams.

The top 3 picks were just as many predicted they would be:

1. Andrew Wiggins (SG, Kansas) to Cleveland.  Wiggins would have went 2nd had Emiid been healthy, but easily warrants a 1st place pick due to his phenomenal athleticism.

He is young and raw but has unlimited talent and potential and should turn into a franchise player.

2. Jabari Parker (SF, Duke) to Milwaukee.  Parker may not be happy to be going to the worst scoring team in the league, but Milwaukee sure is glad to get him.

Considered the most well-rounded of the top 3 picks, he will have plenty of opportunity to show off his abilities and get noticed by other teams.

3. Joel Emiid (C, Kansas) to Philadelphia.  The #1 pick until he fractured his right foot and was considered a health risk, Philadelphia wisely snatched him up.  Extremely talented and young enough that he should fully heal from his injury.

Some of the night’s other great picks were:

Pick #5-Dante Exum, PG, Australia to the Utah Jazz.  Many had him listed 4th on their draft boards and Utah was lucky to get him.  Has seen limited action in the NBA but is expected to be one of the best prospects.

Pick #7-Julius Randle, PF, Kentucky to the Los Angeles Lakers.  Randle is a good fit for L.A. and is ready to contribute now, they don’t need to develop him like they would have if they had went for Noah Vonleh.

Pick #34-Cleanthony Early, SF, Wichita State to the New York Knicks.  The pick was originally the Boston Celtics via the Dallas Mavericks.  Early could easily have been a mid 1st-rounder and is huge asset for the Knicks.  He’s perfect for the triangle offense, has great range as a shooter and can play either forward position.

This year’s draft had a very deep pool of talent and it will be interesting to see how these picks stack up once the season gets underway.
