NCIS has been renewed for its ninth season, and star Mark Harmon has been inked to a new two year deal.
Mark Harmon will continue to play his lead role as Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Special Agent, Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS), presumably for the next two seasons – though at this time only one new season has been renewed, according to deadline.com.
Harmon is also being promoted from producer to executive producer. It is being reported that Harmon, who was 59 years old, will earn a half a million dollars per episode.
Except for Cote de Pablo (Ziva David), the remainder of the major NCIS stars have also signed up for the ninth season. Cote de Pablo’s contract does not expire until the end of this season.
NCIS has bucked the trend of aging shows. Rather than having a decline in viewership, NCIS is increasing its numbers. Last Tuesday, in it’s regular 8 PM CBS time slot, NCIS broke his own record by bringing in 22.8 5 million viewers. NCIS is the most-watched scripted TV show in the US this year.
NCIS has also given birth to the spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles, which airs right after it’s parent, and was watched by 17.7 million viewers.
