The cast of ‘The Wiz Live’ has gotten even more impressive with the news that R & B singer Ne-Yo and Grammy-winning musician Common will be joining the cast.
Ne-Yo will be playing the role of the Tin Man and Common will be the gatekeeper to Oz.
The announcement came from NBC President Bob Greenblatt during the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday.
Greenblatt also revealed that ‘Hairspray’ star Elijah Kelly has been cats as the Scarecrow.
Ne-Yo, Common and Kelly join a formidable cast consisting of: Uzo Aduba (Glinda, The Good Witch of the South), Mary J. Blige (Wicked Witch of the West), David Alan Grier (the Cowardly Lion), Queen Latifah (the Wizard), Stephanie Mills (Aunt Em) and Amber Riley (Addaperle, The Good Witch of the North).
Ironically Dorothy, the star of the show, is the only unknown, played by newcomer Shanice Williams.
‘The Wiz Live’ will air on NBC on Thursday, December 3rd at 8 P.M. (EST)
