The new UK car insurance government legislation was applauded by the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (BIBA).

The biggest change is the fact that from now on it will be a punishable criminal offence to keep any vehicle that does not feature breakdown car insurance coverage. This is different than past legislation, where it was just considered illegal to drive a vehicle that does not have annual insurance.

BIBA declared that they are delighted to see the new UK car insurance legislation. The organization has tried to introduce CIE (Continuous Insurance Enforcement) ever since 2004.

BIBA also stated that this new law is going to create a system that is much fairer for motorists that are responsible and that have to pay around 30 pounds each year in order to cover uninsured driving.

Ashton West, Motor Insurers’ Bureau chief executive, noted in a recent press appearance that this is one measure that will leave all drivers that are not insured with “no place to hide”.

It is still not noted how those caught without the insurance are going to be punished.
