Facebook launched a new app today that will allow Facebook users to communicate with their Facebook Friends from their Windows 7 computer desktop.
The new Facebook Messenger for Windows is a desktop application that will allow users to stay logged into Facebook full time. Messages from Friends, a ticker new feed, Facebook chat, Friend requests, and notifications, will all be available directly on the desktop. There will not be a need to pull up a browser window and visit Facebook, it will be right there on the desktop.
Messenger can be moved around on the desktop, or docked to the right side of the screen. According to Facebook, chatting with individual friends works through Messenger, but chatting with multiple friends simultaneously, and video calling, is not available at the time.
The new app is available from Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/about/messenger
Currently, Facebook Messenger for Windows only supports Win 7. Support for additional Windows versions and for Macs is in the works.
