New Rugged, Water Resistant, Android Phone To Cost $199 – Unlocked

A new rugged, water resistant, Android-based, unlocked, smartphone will soon be available to shoppers here in the US for $199.

The smartphone is called the Tank 4.5. It’s one of new two phones that BLU Products started shipping this week. The other phone is the  Studio 5.3 II.

The Tank 4.5 features a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor, a 4.5-inch IPS display with 960 x 540 resolution, 4GB internal storage, a microSD slot (up to 32GB), a 5MP rear camera and a front-facing camera, a 1,760mAh battery, and dual SIM capability.

It is IP67 certified – meaning basically that it is water resistant to a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes and dust tight.

The Studio 5.3 II also has a dual-core 1GHz Cortex A9 processor. With it’s 5.3-inch IPS display with 960 x 540 resolution it easily falls into ‘phablet’ territory. The smartphone has 4GB internal storage, a microSD slot (up to 32GB), an 8MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, a 2MP front-facing camera, a 2,200mAh battery, and dual SIM capability.

Both phones run Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), come with 3G HSDPA connectivity, and are unlocked right out of the box.

So where can you get one of these new phones?

Oddly, the company was rather vague about that. In an announcement about the release of the phones, they just say that the phones should be appearing “unlocked, and contract free through several online retailers in the US.”

Are you in the market for a rugged, water resistant, smartphone?

If you spot one of these phones at an online or offline store, let us know about it in the comments section below!
