Sony, in a very intuitive and different approach, unveiled a Super Slim PS3 at the Tokyo Game show this week.
The new PS3 isn’t just sleeker though, it also features larger hard drive capacities.
There are two models of the Super Slim PS3, 250GB and 500GB HDDs.
The 250GB PS3 will cost $269 and is set for a September 25th release date. The launch deal will include a limited edition bundle with the game UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception: Game of the Year Edition. It will also include a voucher good for over “$30 worth of bonus digital content for the highly acclaimed digital title, DUST 514,” according to the company.
The 500GB PS3 will launch on October 30th. It will also be a limited edition bundle and will include Assassin’s Creed III, which will have 4 levels exclusive to the PS3. The 500GB version will be priced at $299.
The new models are approximately 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3. They will be available in either black or white.
In a key design change, the new PS3 will not use the slot loading disc drive. Instead, it will be equipped with the sliding door panel to top load discs. In regards to power consumption, the new PS3 will consume less power, dropping from 290W to 200W.
