A number of major retailers are featuring New Year’s Eve and Year End Clearance sales today, both online and off.
One of the more interesting ones is Amazon’s Year End Deals sale.
Amazon’s sale is actually a continuation of their Christmas and after-Christmas sale, but it ends today. The format is practically the same one they used for their Black Friday sales in which they have limited time “Lightning Deals”. While they promote that they have up to 70% a wide range of products, there are only a small number of products available at any given time.
The Lightning Deals appear to be real deals but the savings are exaggerated. For example, at publication time, Amazon is offering a Looqs MeeFrame 8-Inch Wireless Internet-Connected Digital Photo Frame for $44.99. They claim it is on sale for 65% off. That is likely based on the MSRP. But in reality, it normally sales at Amazon for $58.22, and is often on sale for $52. The the Lightning Deal is a deal, but it’s not 65% off its regular price.
Walmart.com is featuring a Year End Clearance Sale today. Many of the featured deals we found were slightly outdated products with relatively small discounts. However, we do see they have a Rest-Medic 12″ Royale Memory Foam Mattress on sale for $299. This normally sales at Walmart for $489, so it looks like there are some real deals interspersed among the so-so deals.
Target is pushing fitness for the New Year – apparently with New Year’s resolutions in mind. A variety of exercise equipment, clothing, and related gear is on sale.
As part of the sale, Target is offering $75 gift cards with the purchase of select elliptical equipment and up to $150 gift cards with the purchase of select treadmills. These offers go through January 5.
Target also has a 50% off sale on Tracy Reese, Jason Wu and other parts of their designer collection right now. Target’s New Year sale is actually pretty extensive, watch for more on this sale here at CP tomorrow.
Other New Year’s sales include one at Macy’s, which features bedding, bath, sheets, comforters, mattresses and lingerie. Home Depot’s Overstock sale, and Sear’s Clearance Sale.
