After competing for high-end customers, Android and iPad tablets are it yet again and this time, they look to target the budget-oriented customers.
The next battle is going to be between the second-gen Nexus 7 and second-gen iPad Mini.
Paul Semenza, from DisplaySearch, believes the Nexus 7 2 will arrive first in the market. It will have a 1920 x 1200 resolution display, an increase in pixels per from 216 (on Nexus 7) to 323 on the upcoming model.
display panels for the second-gen Nexus 7 could go into production starting in Q2, which is quite a bit earlier than the same component production for the Retina iPad Mini.
The second-gen iPad Mini is expected to arrive with a 2048 x 1536 resolution display. Pixels per inch could increase from 163 (on iPad Mini) to 324 on the upcoming version.
The analyst mentions several possible suppliers for the Retina iPad Mini; Japan Display, Sharp, LG Display and AUO. He didn’t suggest any suppliers for the second-gen Nexus 7 display.
The launch dates for either tablet is unknown.
