The price of Nintendo’s Wii has been dropped to $129.99, according to the company’s press site.
Nintendo is dropping the price of its black Wii console in advance of the holiday season. The console comes with a Wii controller plus, a black nunchuk, and copies of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.
This puts the Wii console at a lower price than the Nintendo 3DS, which currently retails for $179.99, and doesn’t come with anything other than the system.
This is an interesting move considering that the Wii U is being released at the end of November. It appears, however, that despite the release of a new system, Nintendo still believes that the Wii is something that families will buy.
“Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing.
Perhaps this is also because the two games that are being released with this system are the two games that paved the way for motion controlled games. Motion controlled systems followed in the Sony Playstation and Microsoft’s xBox, but they haven’t risen above the popularity of the Wii.
Nintendo states in their announcement that the discounted Wii pack with the games will be widely available in stores by October 28th.
