The 2015 Panasonic NYC Triathlon takes place this Sunday, July 19, with over 4,000 athletes competing, including pros, paratriathletes (physically challenged) and age group athletes, ranging in age from 18 – 77.
Participants will swim 1.5 kilometers (.9321 miles) in the Hudson River, bike 40 kilometers (24.85 miles) on the Henry Hudson Parkway, and run 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) in Central Park.
Time: The race starts at 5:50 A.M. (EST) at 99th Street and the Hudson River; athletes are expected to cross the finish line in Central Park beginning at 7:30 A.M. (EST).
Best Viewing Spots: For those who wish to watch, here are the best viewing spots for each leg of the race:
·Swim Start: Riverside Park & 98th Street on the Hudson River
·Swim Exit: Riverside Park & 79th Street on the Hudson River
·Run Course: Along 72nd Street from Henry Hudson Parkway to Central Park West
·Race Finish: Dead Road in Central Park near the band shell off the 72nd Street Transverse
Street Closings: According to the NYPD, the following streets and roads will be closed from 4 A.M. (EST) – 12 P.M. (EST):
·Henry Hudson Parkway northbound lanes from West 57th Street in Manhattan to Mosholu Parkway the Bronx; all southbound lanes of the highway will remain open.
·Eastbound lanes of the Mosholu Parkway between Henry Hudson Parkway and West Gun Hill Road, West 79th Street between Riverside Drive & Henry Hudson Parkway, and West 72nd Street between Riverside Drive and Central Park West.
