TFH Publications, Inc./Nylabone Products of Neptune, NJ, has issued a recall of its Puppy Starter Kit dog chews due to possible Salmonella contamination, which can affect owners and pets.
The recall is for their 1.69 oz package marked with Lot #21935. The UPC code is 0-18214-81291-3 and has an expiration date of 3/22/18.
As of this writing there have been no illnesses reported; consumers who have a kit can return it (even if it has been opened and partially used) to the store for a full refund.
Owners who touch the product and don’t wash their hands run the risk of getting sick, as do dogs who chew on or ingest the product.
According to the FDA, signs of Salmonella poisoning include nausea, abdominal cramping, vomiting, diarrhea and fever.
Dogs who ate the product may appear lethargic, have a decreased appetite, run a fever, suffer from diarrhea and vomit.
If your pet exhibits any of those symptoms they should be taken to a vet immediately.
