Obama’s Speech On U.S. Debt Crisis | Speech Videos

President Barack Obama and House Speaker John A. Boehner spoke in an attempt to frame the debate on plans to raise the federal debt ceiling Monday evening (July 25).

Both Obama and Boehner made the consequences of the failure to meet next Tuesday’s deadline clear, as well as showed the importance of compromise between Congress.

Obama said in an attempt to support his plan further: “History is scattered with the stories of those who held fast to rigid ideologies and refused to listen to those who disagreed. But those are not the Americans we remember. We remember the Americans who put country above self, and set personal grievances aside for the greater good.”

Boehner then challenged President Obama’s plan by making his own speech.

Here is the video of Boehner’s response:

“Unfortunately, the president would not take yes for an answer. Even when we thought we might be close on an agreement, the president’s demands changed,” Boehner stated, referring to Obama’s call for an extra $400 billion in tax rises for the wealthiest.
