Divergent is still going strong in theaters, and now a star has been added to the sequel, as Octavia Spencer will be playing the role of Johanna in next year’s follow up, Insurgent.
For the sequel, Spencer will join a cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet, who all appeared in Divergent, which revolves around Woodley’s character Tris Prior, and is based on the book series written by Veronica Roth.
Spencer has been in high demand since winning an Oscar for her role in 2011’s The Help. In addition to her upcoming role in the Divergent series, Spencer has a multitude of other projects in the works, including three movies that are in post production and due out later this year.
Divergent has already grossed more than $250 million at the box office, and counting. Insurgent is yet to begin filming with director Robert Schwentke, but it’s scheduled to hit theaters March 15, 2015.
