Officials Want Answers In Panama City Florida School Board Shooting

The Panama City School Board shooting has become national news, but local officials are still looking for answers.

When 56 year old ex-convict Clay Duke took the school board hostage and opened fire on its members, he mentioned that his wife had been fired by the school district. However, no one is certain if this is the reason for the incident that led to Duke turning the gun on himself and taking his own life.

Police are left wondering what the motive was and members of the school board are left shaken up by the experience.

Duke fired at several members but did not hit any of them in the shooting. One female member had a failed attempt at taking the gun by hitting Duke over the head with a purse.

This wasn’t the shooter’s first run in with the law. In January of 2000 he was convicted of aggravated stalking, shooting or throwing a missile into a building or vehicle and obstructing justice. He was sentenced to five years and was released in January of 2004.

Since Duke ended his life Tuesday during the hostage situation, his motives are left unknown. Police were able to determine the attack had been planned in advance, but the question of why still remains.
