Get ready for lots of confetti and cheering fans because it was just announced that NYC will be holding a ticker-tape parade for the U.S. Women’s soccer team this Friday (July 10)!
The parade will take place at 11 A.M. (EST) along the Canyon of Heroes, which is the area along Broadway from the Battery to City Hall.
The parade will end with a special ceremony outside City Hall- for tickets go to this page tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8th, between 2-4 P.M. (EST) to sign-up for a chance to attend.
Those who sign-up will be chosen randomly via raffle to attend and notified on Thursday, July 9, starting at 10:30 A.M. (EST).
The announcement, which came from Mayor DeBlasio’s administration, is no surprise since fans have been campaigning for days on social media for NYC to hold a parade to celebrate their championship victory.
The U.S. women’s soccer team defeated Japan on Sunday 5-2 to win the World Cup; since them they have been invited to the White House and had a rally in their honor in Los Angeles.
The Canyon of Heroes has traditionally held parades for NY sports teams due to traffic congestion and high costs; the last parade for a non-NYC team was for John Glenn and the Space Shuttle Discovery.
Those interested in attending the parade will want to get there early for prime viewing spots.
Check back with Consumer Press for updates on ticket availability, as well as street closings, as they become available.
